It's starting to look official
23 June 2009
I put a banner up for my Etsy shop just now. Now all I have to do is start listing things.
Well, that's not all I have to do. I need to streamline my list and start checking things off - the countdown has begun. I'm hoping to get the shop open in July.
Wish me luck!
In other news, V has started biting her fingernails.
Like mother like daughter, I suppose. I tried to hide it, but maybe I wasn't successful. Or maybe she figured it out on her own, I don't know. I don't bother her about it, other than to talk to her occasionally about why it's not a good idea. I know from personal experience that having people tell you to stop biting your nails has absolutely no effect on whether or not you bite your nails.
But I so wish she wouldn't.
Last thing - today I took some black and white photos of V that I'm very happy with. I plan to post one or three of them on July 1st for my ongoing first day of the month in black and white project. I still don't have an official name for it. Or any sort of cute button for your blog. But I will be posting my b&w photos on July 1st. And I will be adding them to the flickr group. And I would love it if you would join me by posting links to yours in the comments on that day and in the flickr group anytime you feel like it. Thanks!
I can't wait for your Etsy shop!

I am looking forward to your shop as well. I've been thinking of starting one, but it seems so overwhelming at this moment, so I think it will have to wait.

I like the banner! Yay!
My husband bites/picks his fingernails and all three of my kids started to also. My two youngest stopped. I didn't hound them about it, but like you, I told them occasionally why it isn't good to do. I don't know why they stopped and my oldest didn't, so I don't have any advice.
Thanks for the reminder about the 1st of the month b&w!

When my daughter was 3, she bit her nails for about 9 or 10 months. It all started when I painted them for my brother's wedding. It was like I triggered her awareness of her lovely nails and she couldn't take the pressure. She stopped when I learned to praise any white, smooth edges that I saw and reward her for her honesty if she did end up biting some. She got coloring books from the Dollar Store if she could grow most of them out. Then the phase passed and she just stopped wanting to bite them.
Your shop's banner is excellent! Congratulations on the progress.

That sure is a hard habit to break. I've never been able to. When ever I am nervous or something is bothering my pretty long nails disappear. oh, well.

I bit my fingernails from the time I was little. People offered me money to try to get me to stop. I think my grampa even went up to $100 if I could. I couldn't. Nothing worked. Then suddenly I just stopped (maybe 3rd grade or so). And immediately started to chew them in my sleep instead. (Yes, seriously, it was most annoying - how on earth do you stop doing something in your sleep.) When I started practicing reiki last fall, that finally stopped too.
congrats on your shop! I can't wait to see what you add ..

I'm a nail chewer too....come from a long line of nail chewers. The only two times I was able to stop was when I had acrylic nails put on for my wedding and then when my son was born...I was sooo busy, I didn't have time to bite them, plus I think all the hormones helped them grow faster.

I'm so excited about your new Etsy shop! You're so talented.
Re: V, if it makes you feel any better, I have a bad habit of twisting my hair when I'm thinking about something, and so does Lily. :-)

I think nail-biting is a phase...my daughter did it around 5. I did everything to try to stop her. It didn't work. Then one day, she just stopped. Go figure.

What a great blog! Just stumbled across it. My wife, three kids and I live in Athens GA. I love the old farmhouse pictures, the set of that warehouse in Arnoldsville, etc. Tomorrow we are heading to the family farm of my wife's in deepest South Carolina -- you've inspired me to take some pics of some of the cool old houses and buildings there!
Also, our youngest daughter, who is 4, looks scary-much like your kid...
